Soil pH is vital to grass health and can affect nutrient uptake in plants or indicate a mineral deficiency in the earth. It tells you how easily the roots can absorb the nutrients that keep plants healthy, green, and weed-free and is a crucial indicator of how susceptible they are to disease and pests.
Specifically, pH units measure the amount of acidity or alkalinity in your lawn and soil on a scale that runs from 0 to 14 (with 7 being neutral).
If your soil pH is too high or too low, you may see issues like excess thatch buildup, increased pest problems, and inefficient absorption of fertilizer treatments.
Sometimes simply adjusting your soil's pH can "unlock" a host of benefits available to the roots of your plants and grass. Generally, limestone is used to raise a pH level, and sulfur is used to lower it.
